Companion K-9 Dog Services COVID-19 Update

As the COVID-19 situation continues evolving, we here at Companion K-9 Dog Services are taking one day at a time. Just as many other businesses, we have been greatly impacted by travel bans and social distancing. Many our services have been significantly reduced or cancelled due to the COVID-19.

We also recognize the critical role boarding kennels, doggie daycares, shelters, sanctuaries, and rescues play in ensuring essential community workers and at-risk individuals have a safe place to house dogs and the need for continued pet care in our community they serve. Many States’ Department of Agriculture have sourced guidelines for essential businesses to help ensure safe housing for dog and other animals.

We want to continue to support our community the best way possible. We deeply appreciated our clients and any continued support during this time. Just to keep everyone informed of some of the things we have implemented regarding the health and well-being of our clients, their pets and staff we have eliminated any group training classes, private training lessons and facility tours. We are meeting all clients at the outside gate areas with minimal physical contact if any at all. We are trying various on-line methods of payment to eliminate physical contact when possible. We have implemented a rigorous cleaning protocol over and above what we normally perform using the CDC Recommended Protocols and Department of Agriculture Protocols.

We are still offering daycare, boarding, and our board and train program currently. We are here to continue to support our community by offering these services, especially to people on the front line so to speak, at-risk individuals and current clients. We operate out of my home in the country and have lots of fenced acreage. We operate on a very small scale as far as staff and the number of dogs taken in for care. Even when the weather is rainy, we have a few inside play areas we can utilize for the dogs whether boarding or daycare. Don’t let the weather sway you from bringing your pet to play and give them a break as well during these times or if you are having to work long hours. Dogs are allowed in the house and we have our inside garage play area, which is about 800 square feet. Then the barn area which is a 30’ x 40’ building with 2 play areas inside the barn that lead to separate outside play yards for potty breaks. Our daycare is our most viable means of support currently due to the travel bans and people not boarding their dogs. However, we are still offering our boarding services along with our daycare. We appreciate any continued support as well from the community.

Clients in need of training. We are still doing our board and train program. However, I will also be looking into other avenues to possibly work with dog training needs of clients since eliminating group classes and private lessons. We want to help where we can, ensuring pets are still being helped through other methods such as phone consultations or possible video conferencing. These new options are currently a work in progress and will take some time to set up. We want to ensure pets get the essential training that is needed to stay in their homes and not end up at a shelter or rescue, which are organizations that are struggling as well.
